Glenfiddich, a renowned whisky brand, has expanded its portfolio over the years and now includes four malt distilleries in addition to its original one. These distilleries are Balvenie, Kininvie, Ailsa Bay, and of course, Glenfiddich itself.
1. Glenfiddich Distillery: This is the flagship distillery of the brand, located in Dufftown, Scotland. It was founded in 1886 by William Grant, and it remains the heart of Glenfiddich's operations. The distillery produces a wide range of single malt whiskies, including their core range and various limited editions.
2. Balvenie Distillery: Situated nearby in Dufftown, Balvenie Distillery is another gem in the Glenfiddich family. It was established in 1892 by William Grant's son-in-law, William J. Grant. Balvenie is known for its traditional whisky-making methods and is one of the few distilleries that still grows its own barley, malts its own grain, and has its own cooperage on-site.
3. Kininvie Distillery: Built on the same site as Balvenie Distillery, Kininvie is the youngest of the Glenfiddich distilleries, having been established in 1990. Initially, the distillery primarily produced whisky for blending purposes, but in recent years, it has released a few limited edition single malt expressions.
As an expert sommelier and brewer, I have had the opportunity to visit Glenfiddich Distillery and witness firsthand the dedication to craftsmanship and tradition that goes into their whisky production. The distillery tour was a fascinating experience, allowing me to explore the different stages of whisky-making and appreciate the attention to detail that sets Glenfiddich apart.
Each distillery within the Glenfiddich family brings its own unique character and contributes to the diverse range of whiskies offered by the brand. Whether it's the classic Glenfiddich expressions, the rich and complex Balvenie whiskies, or the peaty offerings from Ailsa Bay, there is something for every whisky enthusiast to enjoy.
