Hornitos tequila is a reposado tequila that has been around for quite some time. While it is affordable, I have to say that the quality of this tequila does suffer a bit when compared to other options in a similar price range.
One of the main issues I have with Hornitos is that it is made using modern techniques, which can sometimes result in a less authentic and less flavorful tequila. Traditional methods of tequila production, such as the use of traditional ovens and stone mills, tend to yield a more complex and rich flavor profile. Unfortunately, Hornitos does not employ these traditional methods, and I find that it lacks the depth and character that I look for in a good tequila.
Another aspect that disappoints me about Hornitos is its aging process. Reposado tequila is typically aged for a minimum of two months, but Hornitos only ages its reposado for around six months. This shorter aging period can result in a tequila that lacks the smoothness and complexity that longer-aged reposados possess.
In terms of taste, Hornitos reposado tequila is rather average. It has a somewhat harsh and slightly bitter flavor, with notes of oak and vanilla. While it is not undrinkable by any means, I find that there are definitely better options out there in the same price range.
That being said, I do understand that taste is subjective and everyone has their own preferences. Some people may enjoy the simplicity and affordability of Hornitos tequila. However, as an expert sommelier and brewer, I have had the opportunity to taste and compare a wide range of tequilas, and I can confidently say that there are better-quality options available.
If you're looking for a tequila in a similar price range, I would recommend exploring other brands that offer a more authentic and flavorful experience. There are some fantastic tequilas out there that are made using traditional methods and aged for longer periods of time, resulting in a much more enjoyable drinking experience.
While Hornitos tequila may be affordable, I believe that its quality suffers due to its modern production techniques and shorter aging period. There are definitely better options available in a similar price range that offer a more authentic and flavorful tequila experience.
