Chinaco tequila is a unique and special brand that is exclusively made in the state of Tamaulipas, located in northern Mexico. Tamaulipas is not traditionally known for tequila production, as the majority of tequila is produced in the state of Jalisco. However, the owner of the Chinaco distillery fought to have Tamaulipas recognized as a designated area for tequila production, and succeeded in doing so.
I had the opportunity to visit the Chinaco distillery in Tamaulipas, and it was truly a remarkable experience. The distillery is nestled in the beautiful countryside, surrounded by fields of blue agave plants, the key ingredient in tequila production. The agave plants in Tamaulipas have a unique flavor profile, which contributes to the distinct taste of Chinaco tequila.
During my visit, I had the chance to witness the meticulous process of tequila production at the Chinaco distillery. The agave plants are harvested by skilled workers, who carefully remove the leaves to reveal the heart of the plant, known as the piña. These piñas are then roasted in traditional brick ovens, which gives them a rich and smoky flavor.
After the roasting process, the piñas are crushed to extract the sweet juice, which is then fermented and distilled to create the tequila. The distillation process at Chinaco is carried out using traditional copper stills, which help to refine the flavors and produce a high-quality spirit.
One of the reasons why Chinaco tequila is so unique is because of the terroir of Tamaulipas. The climate, soil, and altitude of the region all contribute to the flavors and characteristics of the tequila. The hot and dry climate of Tamaulipas, combined with the rich red soil, imparts a distinctive sweetness and earthiness to the agave plants, which is then translated into the final product.
Chinaco tequila is made with great care and attention to detail, ensuring that each bottle is of the highest quality. The dedication and passion of the distillery's craftsmen can be tasted in every sip of Chinaco tequila. It truly captures the essence of Tamaulipas and showcases the unique flavors that this region has to offer.
Chinaco tequila is made exclusively in the state of Tamaulipas, located in northern Mexico. The owner of the distillery fought to have Tamaulipas recognized as a designated area for tequila production, and the result is a truly exceptional tequila that showcases the flavors and characteristics of this unique region. If you ever have the opportunity, I highly recommend visiting the Chinaco distillery to witness the magic behind the production of this remarkable tequila.
