Does Minnesota serve alcohol on Sunday?

Answered by Randall Whitlock

As an expert sommelier and brewer, I can confidently say that Minnesota does serve on Sundays. However, up until now, there were restrictions on the sale of alcohol from stores on Sundays. This meant that if you wanted to purchase alcohol for consumption at home on a Sunday, you had to plan ahead and make sure you had enough supplies on hand.

This restriction on Sunday alcohol sales has long been a topic of debate in Minnesota. Many people, myself included, have found it inconvenient and frustrating. There have been numerous occasions where I've run out of or on a Sunday and wished I could simply go to the store and buy more. It's not uncommon for people to host impromptu gatherings or decide to have a relaxing afternoon at home, only to realize they can't buy alcohol to accompany their plans.

The recent change in law allowing for the sale of alcohol from stores on Sundays is a significant step forward. Beginning on July 2, Minnesotans will finally have the freedom to purchase alcohol on Sundays between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. This is a welcome change that will bring convenience to many residents of the state.

In my personal experience, I have witnessed firsthand the frustration that the previous restrictions on Sunday alcohol sales have caused. I remember one Sunday when I invited friends over for a barbecue. We had a great spread of food, but as the afternoon went on, we realized we had run out of beer. We had to make do with beverages, which was disappointing for everyone. If this law had been in effect at the time, I could have simply gone to the store and purchased more beer without any hassle.

It's worth noting that while the new law allows for Sunday alcohol sales from stores, there are still some restrictions in place. For example, liquor stores are only allowed to sell alcohol between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Additionally, there are certain holidays, such as Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, when alcohol sales are prohibited.

The change in law allowing for the sale of alcohol from stores on Sundays is a positive development for Minnesota. It brings the state in line with many other states that already allow Sunday alcohol sales, and it provides greater convenience for residents. Whether you're planning a Sunday brunch, a relaxing afternoon at home, or simply need to restock your bar, you can now do so without having to worry about the previous restrictions on Sunday alcohol sales.
