Who owns Napa Cellars?

Answered by Paul Bowser

Napa Cellars is owned by the Trinchero Family, who acquired the winery in 2006. The Trinchero Family is also the owner of other well-known brands such as Sutter Home Winery. I had the pleasure of visiting Napa Cellars and meeting members of the Trinchero Family, and I must say, their passion for winemaking is truly inspiring.

The Trinchero Family has a rich history in the industry, dating back to 1947 when the family patriarch, Mario Trinchero, and his brother John, started Sutter Home Winery. Over the years, they have expanded their portfolio and acquired several other wineries, including Napa Cellars.

When I visited Napa Cellars, I was struck by the diversity of wines they produce. They have three main categories: the Classic Collection, the V Collection, and the Winemaker Series. Each collection offers a unique selection of wines, showcasing the diversity and quality of Napa Valley's terroir.

The Classic Collection features wines that are approachable, fruit-forward, and meant to be enjoyed in their youth. These wines are perfect for everyday drinking or for casual get-togethers. I particularly enjoyed their Chardonnay from the Classic Collection, which had a beautiful balance of crisp acidity and luscious fruit flavors.

The V Collection is a step up in terms of quality and complexity. These wines are made from carefully selected vineyards and showcase the unique characteristics of the Napa Valley region. I had the pleasure of trying their Cabernet Sauvignon from the V Collection, and it was truly outstanding. It had bold tannins, rich black fruit flavors, and a long, lingering finish. It was a wine that demanded attention and would be perfect for a special occasion or a fine dining experience.

The Winemaker Series is the pinnacle of Napa Cellars' portfolio. These wines are crafted by the winemaker's hand and represent the ultimate expression of their artistry and expertise. The Winemaker Series wines are limited production and often sourced from single vineyards or specific blocks within vineyards. I was fortunate enough to try their Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon from the Winemaker Series, and it was simply breathtaking. It had layers upon layers of complex flavors, with notes of blackberry, dark chocolate, and spice. It was a wine that had the potential to age beautifully for many years to come.

The Trinchero Family's ownership of Napa Cellars has brought a level of expertise and passion to the winery that is truly evident in the quality of their wines. Their commitment to showcasing the best of Napa Valley's terroir is admirable, and I look forward to seeing what they continue to produce in the years to come.
