Black Button Distilling is owned by Founder and Master Distiller Jason Barrett. I had the pleasure of meeting Jason during a visit to the distillery, and his passion for his craft is evident in every aspect of the business. He started Black Button Distilling at the young age of 24, and in just ten years, he has created a brand that is not only known for its high-quality craft spirits but also for its commitment to the local community.
During my conversation with Jason, he shared the story behind Black Button Distilling and how it all began. He explained that he had always been fascinated by the process of distilling and the art of crafting spirits. After extensive research and training, he took the leap and founded Black Button Distilling in Rochester.
What sets Black Button Distilling apart from other distilleries is its commitment to using locally sourced ingredients. Jason believes in supporting local farmers and businesses, and he strives to create a truly “grain to glass” experience. This means that the grains used in the production of their spirits are grown right here in the local community.
I was fortunate enough to witness this commitment firsthand during a tour of the distillery. Jason proudly showed us the room where the grains are stored and explained how they work closely with local farmers to ensure the highest quality ingredients. This dedication to sourcing local not only supports the local economy but also ensures that Black Button Distilling can create unique and flavorful spirits that truly reflect the region.
Another aspect that impressed me about Black Button Distilling is their involvement in the community. Jason shared how important it is for him and his team to give back to the community that has supported them over the years. They regularly participate in local events, donate to charitable causes, and even offer internships and job opportunities to local residents.
During my visit, I had the opportunity to sample some of Black Button Distilling's craft spirits, and I must say, they are exceptional. From their award-winning bourbon to their handcrafted gin and vodka, each spirit had its own distinct flavor profile that showcased the skill and expertise of the distilling team.
