Bond Winery is owned by Bill Harlan, an esteemed figure in the wine industry. Before founding Bond, Harlan had a significant presence in the wine world as the owner of Merryvale Winery. During his time at Merryvale, Harlan had the opportunity to work with numerous vineyards, collaborating with around 60 different ones. However, as time went on, Harlan began to hone in on the vineyards that he considered exceptional, those that truly stood out from the rest. This led him to sell Merryvale and establish Bond, with the aim of highlighting the unique terroir of these selected vineyards in a singular and distinctive way.
Harlan's decision to focus on a smaller number of vineyards reflects his dedication to quality and his desire to showcase the best of what each vineyard has to offer. By reducing the number of vineyards he works with, Harlan is able to devote more attention and resources to these select sites, allowing for a more intimate understanding and expression of their terroir.
Bond Winery, therefore, represents Harlan's commitment to crafting wines that reflect the distinct character and personality of each vineyard. By owning and operating Bond, Harlan has the freedom to explore and express the unique qualities of these exceptional vineyards, without compromise or dilution.
As an expert sommelier and brewer, I have had the pleasure of tasting wines from Bond Winery and can attest to the exceptional quality and individuality of their offerings. Each wine carries a sense of place, a reflection of its vineyard's terroir, and a testament to Harlan's vision and expertise.
