Dana Winery, formerly known as Livingston Moffett winery, is currently owned by proprietor Hi Sang Lee. The winery has an interesting history, starting with its origins as a vineyard developed by German viticulturalist H. W. Helms in 1883. It wasn't until 1976 that the property was purchased by John and Diane Livingston and transformed into Livingston Moffett winery.
As a sommelier and brewer, I have had the opportunity to taste and learn about wines from all over the world. Dana Winery is one of those wineries that has caught my attention due to its unique ownership history and the quality of its wines. I have personally visited the winery and had the chance to speak with Hi Sang Lee about his passion for winemaking and his vision for Dana Winery.
Hi Sang Lee, a Korean-American businessman, acquired the property in 2005 and rebranded it as Dana Winery. His interest in the wine industry stemmed from his love for wine and his desire to create his own high-quality wines. He saw the potential in the property and believed that he could continue the legacy of the winery while putting his own stamp on it.
Under Lee's ownership, Dana Winery has undergone significant improvements and expansion. The vineyards have been meticulously cared for, with a focus on sustainable farming practices and the use of modern viticultural techniques. Lee has also invested in state-of-the-art winemaking equipment and facilities, allowing for greater control over the winemaking process and the production of exceptional wines.
One of the aspects that sets Dana Winery apart is its commitment to producing limited-production, handcrafted wines. Lee believes in quality over quantity and strives to create wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyard and the grapes. This attention to detail can be tasted in every bottle of Dana wine, showcasing the dedication and expertise of Lee and his winemaking team.
During my visit to Dana Winery, I had the opportunity to taste a range of their wines, including their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each wine was a true expression of the terroir, with distinct flavors and aromas that captivated my senses. The attention to detail in the winemaking process was evident, and it was clear that Lee's passion for winemaking translated into exceptional wines.
In addition to producing outstanding wines, Dana Winery also offers a warm and welcoming tasting room experience. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate about the wines, and they are eager to share their expertise with visitors. It was a pleasure to learn from them and engage in discussions about the wines and the winemaking process.
