At Powerscourt Distillery, we take pride in crafting a variety of exceptional whiskeys. Our distillery produces four distinct styles of whiskey: Grain Whiskey, Malt Whiskey, Pot Still Whiskey, and Blended Whiskey.
Grain Whiskey is made primarily from grains such as corn, wheat, and barley. It is typically light and smooth, with a subtle sweetness. We carefully select the finest grains to create a high-quality Grain Whiskey that showcases the unique flavors and character of each grain.
Malt Whiskey, on the other hand, is made exclusively from malted barley. This style of whiskey tends to have a rich and robust flavor profile, with notes of caramel, chocolate, and dried fruits. We take great care in the malting process to ensure that our Malt Whiskey retains its distinct character and complexity.
Pot Still Whiskey is a traditional Irish style of whiskey that is made from a mixture of malted and unmalted barley. It is known for its full-bodied and spicy flavor, with hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. Our Pot Still Whiskey undergoes a triple distillation process, which helps to refine and enhance its unique taste.
In addition to our individual styles of whiskey, we also produce a Blended Whiskey under our Fercullen brand. Blended Whiskey is a combination of different types of whiskey, carefully selected and expertly blended to create a harmonious and well-balanced final product. Our Blended Whiskey showcases the best characteristics of each whiskey style, resulting in a smooth and flavorful spirit.
I personally have had the opportunity to witness the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into making our whiskeys at Powerscourt Distillery. From the sourcing of the finest ingredients to the careful distillation and maturation processes, every step is executed with precision and passion.
One of my favorite experiences was witnessing the malting process for our Malt Whiskey. The barley is carefully soaked, allowed to germinate, and then dried in a kiln. This process not only imparts unique flavors to the whiskey but also adds depth and complexity.
Another memorable experience was observing the distillation of our Pot Still Whiskey. The copper pot stills, carefully shaped and crafted, work their magic to produce a spirit that is full of character and flavor. The art of distillation is truly fascinating and plays a significant role in shaping the final product.
