Can you visit Chichibu Distillery?

You can visit Chichibu Distillery, but it's important to note that Chichibu does not have a Visitors Centre. Therefore, it's essential to contact their Brand Ambassador, Yumi, before you plan your visit. This way, you can ensure that you have all the necessary information and make the most of your time at the distillery.

When I visited Chichibu Distillery, I had to drive through some snowy mountains before finally arriving in the afternoon. The scenery was breathtaking, with the snow-capped peaks creating a picturesque backdrop for our visit. As we approached the distillery, we entered a beautiful, cosy wooden hut, which immediately gave off a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Inside the hut, we were greeted by our guide, Soma-san, who welcomed us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the distillery and its processes, and he made sure to provide us with a comprehensive tour.

The tour itself was an incredible experience. We were taken through the various stages of whisky production, from the malting and mashing to the fermentation and distillation. Soma-san explained each step in detail, making sure to answer any questions we had along the way.

One of the highlights of the tour was getting to see the impressive copper stills in action. The distillery uses traditional pot stills, which add a unique character to their whiskies. It was fascinating to watch the distillation process and see how the spirit transformed as it passed through the stills.

After the tour, we had the opportunity to sample some of Chichibu's exquisite whiskies. The distillery offers a range of expressions, each with its own distinct flavor profile. From the smooth and fruity to the rich and smoky, there was something to suit every palate. As a sommelier and brewer, I was particularly impressed by the complexity and craftsmanship of their whiskies.

In addition to the tour and tasting, Chichibu Distillery also offers the opportunity to purchase their whiskies. They have a small shop on-site where you can browse their selection and take home a bottle or two as a memento of your visit. It's worth noting that their whiskies are highly sought after, so availability may be limited.

Visiting Chichibu Distillery was an unforgettable experience. From the stunning surroundings to the warm hospitality and exceptional whiskies, it truly exceeded my expectations. If you have a passion for whisky and appreciate the artistry behind its production, I highly recommend adding Chichibu Distillery to your list of must-visit destinations.
