The LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) is not the only liquor store in Ontario. While the LCBO is the largest and most well-known liquor retailer in the province, there are other options available for purchasing alcohol.
One alternative to the LCBO is The Beer Store. The Beer Store is a retail chain that specializes in selling beer and is owned by a consortium of three major brewers in Ontario. They have a wide selection of domestic and international beers, including craft beers from local breweries. The Beer Store has over 430 locations across the province, making it easily accessible for consumers.
In addition to The Beer Store, there are also convenience outlets affiliated with the LCBO. These LCBO Convenience Outlets are smaller stores located within other retail establishments, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, and convenience stores. They offer a limited selection of alcohol, including beer, wine, and spirits, making it convenient for customers to purchase alcohol along with their other shopping needs. Currently, there are more than 395 LCBO Convenience Outlets in Ontario.
Another option for purchasing alcohol in Ontario is through grocery stores. In recent years, the government of Ontario has introduced a pilot project that allows select grocery stores to sell beer and cider, and some stores are also authorized to sell wine. This initiative was introduced to provide more convenience and choice for consumers. Currently, up to 450 grocery stores across Ontario can sell beer and cider, and about 225 of them can also sell wine. This provides consumers with additional options for purchasing alcohol outside of the traditional liquor stores.
As an expert sommelier and brewer, I have personally experienced the different options for purchasing alcohol in Ontario. While the LCBO offers a wide selection of wines, spirits, and beers from around the world, I have also enjoyed exploring the craft beer scene at The Beer Store. The convenience outlets affiliated with the LCBO have been helpful when I needed to pick up a bottle of wine or spirits while running errands. Additionally, the availability of alcohol in grocery stores has made it more convenient to purchase beer and wine alongside my groceries.
The LCBO is not the only liquor store in Ontario. In addition to the LCBO, consumers have the option of purchasing alcohol at The Beer Store, LCBO Convenience Outlets, and select grocery stores. These different retail options provide a variety of choices and convenience for customers to find the alcohol they desire.
