Terrapin IPA is made by Terrapin Beer Company, a brewery located in Athens, Georgia. The founders of the brewery, Brian “Spike” Buckowski and John Cochran, established Terrapin in 2002 with a passion for brewing high-quality craft beer.
I had the pleasure of visiting Terrapin Beer Company and meeting Brian and John myself. Their dedication to their craft was evident in every aspect of the brewery, from the brewing process to the tasting room experience. It was clear to me that they wanted to create beers that were not only delicious but also unique and memorable.
Terrapin IPA, in particular, is one of their flagship beers and a favorite among craft beer enthusiasts. The IPA style, which stands for India Pale Ale, is known for its hop-forward flavor profile and higher alcohol content. Terrapin IPA embodies these characteristics with its bold and assertive hop bitterness, balanced by a malty backbone.
One of the things that sets Terrapin IPA apart is the use of Amarillo hops. These hops, known for their citrusy and floral notes, contribute to the beer's distinct aroma and flavor. When I first tried Terrapin IPA, I was immediately struck by the vibrant citrus and pine aromas that wafted from the glass.
Upon taking my first sip, I was greeted with a burst of hop bitterness that was perfectly complemented by a subtle sweetness from the malt. The beer had a medium body and a smooth mouthfeel, making it incredibly drinkable despite its bold flavors. It was the kind of beer that I could enjoy on its own or pair with a variety of foods.
Terrapin Beer Company also offers several variations of their IPA, including Hopsecutioner IPA, Hi-5 IPA, and RecreationAle IPA. These variations showcase different hop profiles and brewing techniques, providing beer lovers with a range of options to suit their preferences.
Terrapin IPA is a testament to the skill and creativity of the brewers at Terrapin Beer Company. It is a beer that I continue to enjoy and recommend to others. Whether you're a seasoned craft beer enthusiast or just beginning to explore the world of IPAs, Terrapin IPA is definitely worth trying.
