In 2009, winemaker Gustavo A. Gonzalez and owner Jim “Bear” Dyke, Jr. joined forces to create Mira, a virtual winery. This unique concept allowed them to produce high-quality wines without owning a physical winery. Instead, they sourced grapes from various vineyards and utilized custom crush facilities to craft their wines. This approach allowed them to focus on their winemaking expertise and create exceptional wines.
However, in 2016, the Dyke family took their commitment to Mira to a whole new level. They decided to purchase a beautiful estate property in Yountville, California, to serve as the permanent home for Mira Winery. This acquisition marked a significant milestone for Mira, as it shifted from being a virtual winery to having its own physical location.
The Yountville estate became the foundation for Mira's expansion and growth. It provided a unique opportunity for the team to have a dedicated space to cultivate their vision and craft their wines. The estate boasts breathtaking vineyards, allowing Mira to have a direct connection to the grapes they use in their winemaking process. This connection with the land and the vineyards is crucial for creating wines that truly reflect the terroir of the region.
After acquiring the property, the Dyke family embarked on a journey to build a state-of-the-art winery that would showcase Mira's commitment to excellence. The newly-built winery opened its doors in late 2019, providing the team with a modern and efficient facility to produce their wines. This facility incorporates cutting-edge technology and equipment, further enhancing Mira's winemaking capabilities.
For both Gustavo A. Gonzalez and Jim “Bear” Dyke, Jr., the purchase of the Yountville estate was a testament to their shared passion and dedication to Mira. It allowed them to take full control of the winemaking process from grape to bottle, ensuring the highest quality standards every step of the way. This level of control and attention to detail is what sets Mira apart in the world of winemaking.
As an expert sommelier and brewer, I have had the pleasure of experiencing Mira's wines firsthand. Their dedication to quality and their commitment to showcasing the unique characteristics of the Napa Valley region is evident in every bottle. Mira's wines are a true reflection of the passion and expertise of Gustavo A. Gonzalez and the Dyke family.
