As of early 2022, Maine boasts a thriving craft beer scene with a staggering number of breweries. With my background as an expert sommelier and brewer, I have had the pleasure of exploring many of these establishments and immersing myself in the world of Maine craft beer.
Currently, there are 165 active, licensed breweries in the state of Maine. These breweries represent over 100 unique brands, each with its own distinct character and flavor profile. It's truly remarkable to see the diversity and creativity that exists within the Maine craft beer industry.
One of the things that sets Maine apart is the presence of breweries with multiple licenses and locations. These breweries have managed to expand their reach and offer their delicious brews to a wider audience. Some of these breweries include Allagash Brewing Company, which has multiple locations and is known for its Belgian-style beers, and Bissell Brothers Brewing, which has gained a loyal following for its hop-forward ales.
I have had the pleasure of visiting several of these breweries and experiencing firsthand the passion and dedication that goes into crafting each beer. One of my most memorable brewery visits was to Maine Beer Company in Freeport. Their commitment to quality and sustainability was evident in every sip, and I was blown away by the complex flavors and aromas of their beers.
