Hamm's beer is still being made today. Although the ownership and production of the brand have gone through several changes over the years, it has managed to maintain its presence in the market. Currently, MillerCoors is the owner and brewer of the Hamm's brand.
Hamm's beer has a rich history that dates back to 1865 when it was first brewed by Theodore Hamm in St. Paul, Minnesota. The brand quickly gained popularity and became one of the largest breweries in the Midwest. However, like many other breweries, Hamm's faced challenges during the Prohibition era, which forced them to halt production of alcoholic beverages.
After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, Hamm's made a comeback and continued to grow in popularity throughout the mid-20th century. The brand was known for its iconic advertising campaigns, featuring the famous slogan “From the land of sky-blue waters.” Hamm's became synonymous with the outdoors and was often enjoyed during camping trips and other outdoor activities.
In 1973, Hamm's brewery was acquired by Heublein Inc., a company that owned various alcoholic beverage brands. However, Heublein struggled to maintain the success of Hamm's and eventually sold the brand to Olympia Brewing Company in 1975. Unfortunately, Olympia Brewing Company also faced financial difficulties, leading to the closure of the original Hamm's brewery in St. Paul in 1997.
Despite the closure of the brewery, the Hamm's brand continued to live on. In 2002, the brand was acquired by the Miller Brewing Company, which later merged with Coors Brewing Company to form MillerCoors. As part of the merger, MillerCoors formed a joint venture with MolsonCoors, combining their US and Puerto Rican assets. This joint venture resulted in the formation of MillerCoors, the current owner and brewer of the Hamm's brand.
MillerCoors has continued to produce three varieties of Hamm's beer – Hamm's Premium, Hamm's Golden Draft, and Hamm's Special Light. These beers have managed to maintain the classic taste and quality that Hamm's has been known for over the years.
Personally, I have had the opportunity to taste Hamm's beer on a few occasions, and I must say that it is a refreshing and easy-to-drink beer. The Premium and Golden Draft varieties have a crisp and smooth flavor, with a slight maltiness and a hint of hops. The Special Light version offers a lighter and lower-calorie option without compromising on taste.
Hamm's beer is still being made today by MillerCoors. Despite changes in ownership and production facilities, the brand has managed to preserve its legacy and continues to be enjoyed by beer enthusiasts. Whether you're a fan of the classic Hamm's Premium, the smooth Golden Draft, or the lighter Special Light, you can still find these beers on the shelves and experience the taste of a brand with a long and storied history.
