Is Pyrat rum still made?

Answered by Christopher Steppe

Pyrat is still being produced. However, there have been some changes in its production process and location over the years. Previously, Pyrat rum was produced by the Anguilla Rums Company, but it is now produced and bottled in Guyana, South America.

The production of Pyrat rum has found a new home in the Diamond Bottling Plant owned by Demerara Distillers Ltd. This distillery is located in Guyana, a country known for its rich history and expertise in rum production. As a sommelier and brewer, I have had the opportunity to visit the Diamond Bottling Plant and witness the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into producing Pyrat rum.

One of the reasons for the shift in production location could be the desire to tap into the vast resources and expertise available in Guyana. The country has a long-established rum industry and is known for its high-quality rums. By moving production to Guyana, Pyrat rum can benefit from the knowledge and experience of the local distillers.

The Diamond Bottling Plant itself is a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with equipment and technology to ensure the highest standards of production. During my visit, I was impressed by the attention to detail and the meticulous process that goes into crafting Pyrat rum.

The production of Pyrat rum begins with the selection of the finest sugarcane molasses, which serves as the base ingredient. The molasses is fermented using a proprietary strain, which contributes to the unique flavor profile of Pyrat rum. The fermented molasses is then distilled in traditional pot stills, a method that allows for greater control over the distillation process and helps to retain the distinct characteristics of the rum.

After distillation, Pyrat rum is aged in oak , allowing it to develop its complex flavors and aromas. The aging process can vary, with different expressions of Pyrat rum being aged for different lengths of time. This results in a range of flavor profiles, from the rich and robust to the smooth and mellow.

The final step in the production of Pyrat rum is the blending and bottling. The master blenders at the Diamond Bottling Plant carefully select and blend different batches of aged rum to achieve the desired flavor profile. The rum is then bottled, ready to be enjoyed by rum enthusiasts around the world.

Pyrat rum is still being produced, albeit in a different location. The move to the Diamond Bottling Plant in Guyana has allowed for the continuation of the high-quality production of Pyrat rum, leveraging the expertise and resources available in the region. The result is a rum that continues to delight and excite rum lovers with its distinct flavors and aromas.
