The Bulleit 10 year bourbon is made at the Bulleit distillery in Shelby County, Kentucky. This distillery was announced by Diageo, the parent company of Bulleit, in 2014. As an expert sommelier and brewer, I have a deep appreciation for the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into creating spirits like Bulleit 10 year.
Kentucky, often referred to as the “Bourbon Capital of the World,” has a long and storied history when it comes to producing bourbon. The state's unique climate and limestone-rich water provide the perfect conditions for aging and distilling bourbon. This is why many distilleries, including Bulleit, choose to establish their operations in Kentucky.
I have had the opportunity to visit Kentucky and tour some of its renowned distilleries, including a visit to the Bulleit distillery. It was a truly memorable experience to witness the entire bourbon-making process firsthand and learn about the attention to detail that goes into every bottle of Bulleit 10 year.
At the Bulleit distillery, they start by sourcing the highest quality ingredients, including corn, rye, and malted barley. These grains are carefully selected for their flavor profiles and undergo a meticulous milling process to create a fine grain consistency. This consistency is crucial in ensuring a consistent and balanced flavor in the final product.
Next, the grains are combined with water and cooked to extract the sugars, creating a mash. This mash is then transferred to fermentation vessels, where yeast is added to kickstart the fermentation process. The yeast converts the sugars into alcohol, creating a liquid known as “distiller's beer.”
After fermentation, the distiller's beer is distilled in traditional copper stills. The distillation process separates the alcohol from impurities, resulting in a clear and high-proof spirit. This spirit is then transferred to charred oak barrels for aging.
The aging process is a crucial step in the production of Bulleit 10 year bourbon. The barrels are carefully selected and charred to enhance the flavor and impart unique characteristics to the bourbon. The bourbon is aged for a minimum of 10 years, allowing it to develop complex flavors and aromas.
During my visit to the Bulleit distillery, I had the opportunity to explore their impressive warehouse filled with rows upon rows of aging bourbon barrels. The aroma of the aging bourbon filled the air, creating an intoxicating sensory experience.
After the bourbon has aged to perfection, it is carefully bottled and labeled at the distillery. Each bottle of Bulleit 10 year is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the master distillers and blenders who oversee the entire production process.
Bulleit 10 year bourbon is proudly made at the Bulleit distillery in Shelby County, Kentucky. This state-of-the-art facility combines traditional bourbon-making techniques with modern innovation to create a truly exceptional spirit. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to visit the Bulleit distillery and witness the craftsmanship and passion that goes into every bottle of Bulleit 10 year.
