Rebel Yell whiskey is still being made today. However, there have been some changes in the ownership and production of the brand over the years.
In 1972, the brand was sold to the David Sherman Corporation, which continued to produce Rebel Yell at the Stitzel-Weller Distillery. During this time, Rebel Yell gained a dedicated following, especially among bourbon enthusiasts who appreciated its rich history and traditional craftsmanship.
However, in 1999, the David Sherman Corporation sold the brand to the Luxco company. This transfer of ownership led to the production of Rebel Yell being moved to the Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. The whiskey continued to be crafted in the same style, maintaining its signature characteristics.
In recent years, there have been further changes in the production of Rebel Yell. In 2020, Luxco entered into a joint venture with MGP Ingredients, a renowned distillery located in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. As a result, Rebel Yell is now distilled and aged at the Lux Row Distillery, which is owned and operated by MGP Ingredients.
The Lux Row Distillery, which opened its doors in 2018, is a state-of-the-art facility that adheres to the traditional methods of bourbon production. It boasts a team of skilled distillers who oversee the entire process, from selecting the grains to aging the whiskey in charred oak barrels. This ensures that Rebel Yell continues to maintain its high quality and distinctive character.
Rebel Yell bourbon is still sold at the standard alcohol by volume (ABV) of 40% (80 U.S. proof), which is typical for a bourbon. This ABV level allows the flavors and aromas of the whiskey to shine while maintaining a smooth and approachable drinking experience.
Rebel Yell whiskey is indeed still being made today. The brand has transitioned through different ownerships and production locations over the years, but it remains true to its Kentucky straight bourbon roots. The current production takes place at the Lux Row Distillery, where the traditional craftsmanship and attention to detail ensure that Rebel Yell continues to be enjoyed by bourbon enthusiasts around the world.
