Is Agen, France worth visiting? Agen may not be the most well-known city in France, but it is definitely a hidden gem that deserves more recognition. I had the pleasure of visiting Agen recently and I was pleasantly surprised by all that this charming city has to offer.

First and foremost, Agen is a city rich in history. As you wander through its streets, you can't help but be captivated by the beautiful timber-framed houses that line the roads. These houses, some dating back to the 14th century, give Agen a unique and timeless feel. It's like stepping back in time and experiencing a piece of history firsthand.

One of the highlights of my visit to Agen was exploring the historic center of the city. The narrow, winding streets are filled with quaint shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it the perfect place to spend an afternoon strolling and soaking up the atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting the Saint-Caprais Cathedral, a stunning gothic masterpiece that is sure to leave you in awe.

Another reason why Agen is worth visiting is its vibrant food and drink scene. Agen is known as the prune capital of France, and you can find an abundance of delicious prune-based products throughout the city. I had the pleasure of tasting some of the most incredible prune pastries and jams during my visit, and I can confidently say that Agen prunes are in a league of their own.

In addition to prunes, Agen is also famous for its rugby. If you're a sports fan, I highly recommend catching a rugby match at the Stade Armandie. The atmosphere at the stadium is electric, and it's a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture and experience the passion that the people of Agen have for their beloved sport.

If you're a fan of outdoor activities, Agen has plenty to offer as well. The city is situated on the banks of the Garonne River, providing ample opportunities for boating, fishing, and scenic walks along the river. I had the pleasure of taking a boat tour along the Garonne and it was a truly magical experience. The peacefulness of the river combined with the stunning views of the surrounding countryside made for a memorable day.

Agen is a city that should not be overlooked. It may not be as well-known as some of the other cities in France, but it has a charm and character all its own. Whether you're interested in history, food and drink, sports, or outdoor activities, Agen has something for everyone. So why not venture off the beaten path and discover the beauty of Agen for yourself? You won't be disappointed.
